WITH summer approaching, we are fast heading in to wedding season.
Couples spend months preparing for the perfect day, and for the bride her outfit is often the most important factor.
Wendy Pearson, 47, from Gwersyllt, married for the first time before her 21st birthday, to husband Tony.
She recalled: 'My dress wasn't as glamorous as I wanted it to be due to a couple of factors. I was already overweight and had just found out I was pregnant. I didn't feel like a bride should do on her wedding day.'
Overweight for most of her adulthood, Wendy was at her heaviest at 15 stones for five years. She hated having to buy clothes 'just because they fitted, not because I liked them or because I knew I'd look good in them'.
Following a back injury, Wendy needed an operation, but was told she had to lose weight before the procedure could take place. So, in July 1999, she joined her local Slimming World group.
Thanks to the group, Wendy lost four stones and reached the target weight she had set for herself of 11 stones.
But in the meantime Wendy and Tony had divorced. They realised they had never stopped loving each other, however, and decided to give married life another chance.
They remarried on what would have been their 25th wedding anniversary. Their four children were their witnesses at the ceremony.
The slimmer Wendy felt fantastic and wanted to look as good as she felt on her second wedding day.
'My dress second time around was all I'd dreamed of,' she said. 'At four stone lighter I could choose what I wanted and, boy, did it feel good and look good! Tony was gobsmacked and our children were very proud.'
'I'm more confident now and have more energy'
She also wants to help others to reach their own weight loss targets so Wendy is taking over the Mancot group in Flintshire.
