TWO new Sure Start children’s centres have been approved in Mid Cheshire.
The applications were put forward by Cheshire West and Chester Council at Over Hall Primary School, Ludlow Close, Winsford, and Barnton Primary, Townfield Lane.
At Over Hall, planning officers say there will be a new wing linked to an existing community room and nursery building.
No objections have been raised by Winsford Town Council or neighbours.
However, occupiers say they are concerned about the security of the school grounds and believe there should be adequate fencing to deal with anti-social behaviour.
They also feel consideration should be given to additional noise from traffic and children.
Additional planting is proposed, especially to the rear of parking spaces next to houses on Ludlow Close.
At a Cheshire West planning board meeting, permission was agreed on an 8-0 vote, with one abstention.
Meanwhile, at Barnton Primary, planning officers say the centre will use part of the school building.
Almost 200sq m of the existing school will be refurbished to create the centre, including two infant classrooms.
There will also be a small extension for a new entrance and a sheltered buggy store.
Objections were raised by neighbours at 108 Townfield Lane who say the development will be close to their home.
Planning officers say although the centre will be within 18m of the property, it will largely occupy existing buildings.
There is the possibility ante-natal classes and a dad’s group will meet in the evening but not beyond 9pm in the week.
The centre had unanimous permission.
Parking issues at the school are to be brought to the attention of the head teacher, although councillors heard that, based on experience elsewhere, it is thought most users of the centre will not arrive by car.
