TWO drunk men staggering through Winsford at 10.45am on Sunday were locked up and fined after incurring the wrath of an off-duty police inspector.

Insp Dave Snasdell had stopped a 12-year-old boy at Knight’s Grange after spotting him riding a mini-moto illegally.

Insp Snasdell was talking to the boy when the two passers- by, who were drunk and clutching bottles of lager, when the men tried to intervene and “became aggressive” - not realising the man who had apprehended the youngster was the town’s top cop.

Insp Snasdell, who is head of Winsford Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said he called for back-up and the pair, aged 19 and 20, were arrested for breaching the peace.

They were locked up in cells at Middlewich custody suite “until they sobered up”, and then later issued with fixed penalty notices before being released without charge.

Insp Snasdell said his officers will be clamping down on anyone seen riding illegal vehicles on the public highway.

He said: “If we catch anyone or have reports of anyone riding these mini-motos, or using any other non-roadworthy vehicle on public roads, we will seize it and the driver could face criminal charges.”
