GROUPS and individuals are being sought for a Turkey Trot charity run this Christmas.

The event, which has been running for several years, raises cash for breast cancer sufferers at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Countess fundraising manager Janet Ratcliffe said that this year the aim was to attract more people from Ellesmere Port and Neston to take part.

She and her colleagues in the fundraising office have already signed up to the event, being held at Chester’s Roodee Racecourse on Sunday, December 16. They have called themselves the Reindeer Team.

Mrs Ratcliffe said: “This fun event has been running for several years and is organised by Joe and Ruth Gildea of the Ship Victory pub in Chester, along with regular customer Martin Critchley. All proceeds go to the Angela Gildea Memorial Fund for breast cancer at the Countess.

“Participants are asked to run, trot or walk a minimum of two laps around the Roodee, carrying a frozen turkey with them, and raise as much as possible through sponsorship.”

The event starts at 11am and afterwards everyone is invited back to the Ship Victory to enjoy a drink and some hot food.

“I took part a couple of years ago and we had a great laugh,” added Mrs Ratcliffe.

If you and a group of friends, or work colleagues want to get involved, contact the fundraising office on 01244 366240 for details.

The Ship Victory, through various events and fundraising activities over the years, has raised more than £50,000 for the Countess’ breast cancer care unit.
