THE life of a Welsh soldier killed while serving in Bosnia with the Cheshire Regiment 10 years ago is to be remembered in a special ceremony at Chester Castle.
Lance Corporal Wayne Edwards, of the Royal Welch Fusiliers whose family live in Cefn Mawr, died while carrying out humanitarian duties during the conflict between Croat and Muslim forces
In his memory, members of the Cheshire Regiment, with which he was serving on attachment, donated £2,000 to a fund in his name. And one of the regiment's company commanders of the time, Major Philip Jennings, suggested a trust fund be set up for Wayne's niece, Gemma.
Gemma, now aged 17, is to be presented with the money from the fund, which has risen to about £3,000, at the Cheshires' regimental HQ at the castle.
