THE three men accused of attacking a grandad who later died in hospital could face fresh charges.
The Chronicle understands Paul Blower, 19; Nigel Goolding, 20 and Joshua Spruce, also 19, could be charged with manslaughter – or even murder – when they return to court later this year.
Jim Straiton, 59, and known locally as “Jock”, died in hospital on Saturday, August 9, two weeks after being assaulted in the street outside his ground floor flat at Sandybank, Park Road, Winnington.
The trio are charged with wounding with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and were remanded in custody by a Crown Court judge earlier this month.
On Monday Blower, of Chapel Street, Wincham applied for bail at Chester Crown Court on Monday, but Recorder of Chester Judge Elgan Edwards said he must stay behind bars until October 7.
The Crown Prosecution Service is now awaiting new evidence from police before a decision is made on whether the charges will be brought against the defendants.
