TRIBUTES were paid yesterday to a Widnes teenager who died on early on Saturday after a night out celebrating his 18th birthday.

Keen sportsman Thomas Lunt died after severing an artery in his arm on a broken window.

Mr Lunt, 18 last Friday, was a member of Moorfield Sports and Social Club where he played football for Moorfield AFC’s first team.

Moorfield AFC chairman Tommy Kennedy said: “He was a very good player, a defender or midfielder. He was very versatile.

“He was also a nice lad, quiet and unassuming. He was very popular, not just within the club, but also within the community which is close-knit.”

Mr Lunt, of Proctors Close, was found behind a house in Warrington Road.

Police said a window at Colin Rides Motorcycles was broken from the outside at around 1am. Anyone with information can contact 01244 614768.
