FRIENDS of alleged murder victim Martin Ithell are invited to an event in his memory.
The 49-year-old former doorman, from Robinsons Croft, Great Boughton, died last month of stab and gunshot wounds at a house in Frodsham and his body was driven to Blacon Police Station. Two people have been charged with his murder.
Family friend Roger Devonside has organised ‘An evening in tribute to the life of Martin’ to take place at The Slow Boat Chinese restaurant on Thursday, April 28.
A poster advertising the event says of Martin: ‘A dear friend, always smiling, the kindest man’. Liverpool comics Frankie Allen and Mickey Finn will entertain, with Mr Devonside, from Upton, as compère.
There will be a 10-course banquet, late bar and auction of sporting memorabilia. Tickets are £30, with proceeds to Martin’s favourite charities.
Martin’s partner Sarah Potbury will attend along with her mum and dad, the deceased’s brother Jimmy and his wife Vanessa and daughter Melissa.
Sarah said the evening was ‘a lovely gesture’ which was appropriate given Martin had organised similar events at The Slow Boat for good causes including Chester Boxing Club.
Sarah, who hopes to feel strong enough to say a few words at the event, said: “Martin loved it there, that’s why it’s being held and it will be a nice night.”
In a statement, Sarah and Martin’s family thanked the hundreds of people who paid their last respects at his funeral at St Lawrence Church, Stoak, near where their loved one grew up.
“We want to thank everyone who attended Martin’s funeral and for the great kindness shown to us over past weeks. It is very much appreciated.”
Tickets for the memorial evening can be obtained by calling Roger on 07980 160492 or Steve on 01244 342012.
