BUDDING designers from Years 10-13 across the UK have the chance to take their first step on the ladder of a successful career in the fashion industry through a competition being run by the University of Northampton.

The Graduate Fashion Show 2008 is now in its third year, and the brief this time is to design an outfit/dress with a fuchsia pink theme to be worn (hypothetically) at Glastonbury by pop star Lily Allen.

Participants need to submit one A4 fashion illustration of the design worn on the body, plus manufacture one outfit/dress in a standard size 12 by April 25 next year and send it into the university.

There will be two categories of entry, Years 10-11 and Years 12-13, with an outright winner in each category and a runner-up.

Judging will take place on May 7, 2008 by a panel of university fashion staff and competition sponsors.

First prize for both categories will be an afternoon VIP package to the university’s annual graduate fashion show which takes place on June 18, 2008.

Winners will have their outfits displayed at the event, take in lunch with VIPs, receive a bag of fashion goodies and have a trophy presented to them on the catwalk.

Runners-up will also receive the VIP package to the afternoon fashion show and a certificate of achievement to add to their personal portfolio.
