Haverfordwest 2 Bangor City 0

HAVING clocked up 800 miles in a matter of days, travel-weary Bangor City admitted they were nowhere near their best as the curtain came down on their season.

But manager Steve Bleasdale said he could not complain about his players’ attitude or commitment.

“We have played a lot better than this and I cannot complain about the result, because overall Haverfordwest deserved the win,” he said.

“Our lads’ attitude was spot on but there were some tired legs out there, especially after having journeyed to Llanelli on Tuesday as well.

“In the first half we were not at the races and we had a chat about that during the break so that things got better in the second period, although even then it was not special.

“There were not a lot of chances in the game and, while we probably got in eight shots only a couple were on target, whereas they had perhaps six off target and four on.”

The goals that ended a bleak week for City – two distant games, no goals and no points – were both scored by left winger Lee Hudgell, after 27 and 86 minutes.

The first came from a long throw and Hudgell squeezed an angled shot between Ian Havard and a post, while the late clincher was a one-on-one with the keeper.

Bangor’s misses included Peter Hoy’s slice across the face of the home goal from a set-piece and other shots from Sion Edwards and Mark Smyth were wayward.

“We did not do enough and, for some reason, in three of our last four games we have not had that vital something to make us perform as I know we can”, said Bleasdale.
