HUGE crowds and brilliant weather crowned a fantastic day’s entertainment at the climax of this year’s four-day Northwich Festival on Monday.
Delighted co-ordinator Tim Pickering said this year’s festival had exceeded all expectations.
“The whole event went really well and we estimate about 5,000 people visited the festival on Monday alone, almost double the number from last year and far exceeding what we had hoped for. ”
Highlight of the day was the final of the UK Strongman North – a hotly contested series of challenges involving ten of the country’s muscle men.
Derbyshire based strongman Wayne Tunstall, 27, retained the title he won last year while Mick Ashurst, 33, from Wigan, came second, and Mick Townley, from Burnley, was third. Northwich man Lee Fletcher, 33, came tenth.
However there was plenty of success for Northwich in the finals of Friday’s talent show where acclaimed dancer and entertainer Tom Hewson, 13, was awarded first place and Carl Green, 39, third – both are from Rudheath. Louis Thomson, 14, a singer from Aston-Under-Lyne came second.
