VISITORS to the Blue Planet Aquarium now have the chance to take a peek behind the scenes as part of an Access All Areas tour programme.
The Cheshire Oaks attraction has launched the tours as part of a package of new events for 2013 and they are already proving popular.
Rebecca Collins of the aquarium said: “Our team of experienced tour guides will take you behind the scenes to otherwise prohibited areas and show you how we care for our extensive collection of aquatic life.
“You’ll learn all about what we feed our animals, see how we test our water, visit our training and quarantine areas and even take a walk above our shark-infested three million-litre Caribbean Reef display.
“The tours have only been running for a few days but they are already proving to be a big hit with visitors.”
The tours provide an opportunity to see how the aquarium operates; from feed preparation for a huge range of aquatic creatures to making millions of litres of seawater and keeping it clean.
The highlight is the opportunity to take a walk along a platform above the Caribbean Reef – home to one of Europe’s largest collection of sharks and rays.
Tours cost £3 per person, last 30 minutes and take place on Saturdays, Sundays and every day during school holidays. Children under 90cm are not permitted on the tour.
