AMATEUR theatre company Neston Players’ next production will be a Hollywood masterpiece packed with high tension and emotion.

Searing courtroom drama A Few Good Men is a provocative and engaging meditation on the inevitable corruption of power and the responsibility of those who unquestioningly follow orders.

Written by Aaron Sorkin, creator of hit TV show The West Wing, it tells the story of two US marines who are being court-martialled for the murder of a fellow marine.

Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, an inexperienced US navy lawyer, reluctantly takes their case and discovers his clients’ strict devotion to the Marine Corps’ code of honour and following of orders may cost them their freedom.

Paul Kirkbright, who is directing the play, said: “We have not tried to recreate or simply re-stage the film, we hope it will prove to be a very powerful ‘theatrical’ production.

“By staging the play in the round we hope to draw the audience into the play almost becoming the unseen jury and get them to consider the questions the play raises – questions relating to truth, accountability, loyalty and what it means to have honour.”

The Players production will be performed at Neston Civic Hall from Wednesday, November 14, to Saturday, November 17, from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £7 and can be obtained online or by calling the 24-hour ticket line on 0800 411 8881.
