CHESHIRE West and Chester Council leader Mike Jones has announced his top team following their formal election to office at the historic first meeting of the council.

Councillor Mike Jones, who was formally appointed by members, has charge of the Corporate Services Portfolio which includes Policy, Performance and Partnerships, Marketing and Communications, Civil Protection and Democratic Services.

Said the Leader who represents the Broxton ward: “Our team has demonstrated the ability to deliver over the past ten months when we operated as a shadow authority and now we have set our sights on working closely with all our communities and parish councils.

“We have also ‘slimmed down’ the Executive from ten to eight posts so that more Councillors can play an important role in the committee system.”

Councillor Jones also welcomed Weaver Councillor Lynn Riley to the Executive who has the Portfolio for Area, Community and Services.

He said: “Councillor Riley’s background is in community work and I am sure that she will enjoy her work in a diverse role which includes Neighbourhoods and Customer Services, ICT and Regulatory Services.”

Councillor Brenda Dowding, who represents Neston and Parkgate, is the Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and Health Directorate.

The Culture and Recreational Portfolio belongs to Overleigh’s Richard Short, a former Lord Mayor of Chester and Councillor Herbert Manley who represents Abbey is in charge of the Prosperity Portfolio which includes Regeneration and Housing.

Education Consultant and Councillor Arthur Harada who represents Overleigh has the Education and Children Portfolio and in charge of Environment is Broxton’s Neil Ritchie who is also Deputy Chairman.

Deputy Council Leader Les Ford from Frodsham and Helsby takes on the Finance Portfolio which also includes legal services, Human Resources and Procurement.

Hoole and Newton Councillor John Ebo was formally elected to the role of Chairman of Cheshire West and Cheshire Council and will also become Lord Mayor of Chester on May 13.
