A CHARITY which refurbishes used furniture and gets it back into the community is celebrating after picking up an award for its efforts.

Flint-based Refurbs Flintshire, which works to reduce the amount of unwanted household goods that go to landfill, has been given the Social and Community Enterprise Award at the annual Flintshire Business Awards.

Refurbs also provides work experience placements for unemployed people in Wrexham and Flintshire as part of an EU-funded Intermediate Labour Market (ILM) project.

Cheryl Nance, Refurbs Flintshire’s General Manager, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have received this award.

“We have come a long way since Refurbs began in 2002. When we started, we had a third of the space that we now occupy and only three staff.

“As we have grown, we have been able to take on more staff and we now have ten full-time and two part-time employees.”
