NORTHWICH based Paul Morris came desperately close to becoming British Senior bench press champion recently.
Morris, who trains at Dave’s Gymn, opened with an impressive 182.5 kilos.
He then put a massive 205k on the bar in a bold attempt to win the title, but his ‘shirt’ was so tight that he could not quite get the bar down to touch his chest. The elasticated garments support muscles and enable lifters to improve their personal bests, but they are also incredibly tight and can prevent a lift.
Morris upped the stakes and tried 210k (462lbs) with his third lift, which he just failed to lock out.
Had he succeeded with either of his last to attempts he would have won the national title.
