PARTIES interested in buying a derelict Barnton theatre and its surrounding land have only two days left to make a formal offer.
Northwich-based agents Frank Marshall & Co is seeking sealed bids for Mid Cheshire Amateur Operatic Society’s HQ on Oakwood Lane, with a guide price of £150,000.
A spokesman for Frank Marshall & Co said there has been “a reasonable amount of interest”, with developers eyeing up the plot for housing, offices and commercial storage.
Prospective buyers can get information packs from Marshalls in the Bull Ring. They are required to return an application form and cheque for 10% of their bid as a deposit before noon on Wednesday, July 8.
The final decision on who the theatre and land is sold to will be made by the operatic society.
The premises was built in 1913 as a Methodist Chapel. It was bought by the society in the late 1960s for about £4,000 but wasn’t converted into a fully-functioning theatre until 1995.
The group had hoped money from the sale of land surrounding the theatre would fund a complete renovation, but it is still struggling to make ends meet.
