A LAW student from Winsford has been lauded for her beauty as well as her brain – and been named Miss King’s College London 2008.

And after being officially voted the best-looking female student at the famous college, 21-year-old Tia Roberts will compete for the coveted title of Miss University London in February.

Tia, a former Hartford High School and Sir John Deane’s College pupil, is in her third and final year at King’s and wants to be a human rights lawyer.

She said: “It’s all happened so fast. I’ve never done anything like this before but I was out with my friends and approached, so I thought ‘why not?’

“It’s something different and a fun way to meet new people – and it’s worked out quite well!”

More than 400 students from across the capital originally entered the competition and the heats were held at the Crystal nightclub, which is frequented by Princes William and Harry and A-list celebrities including Paris Hilton and Kevin Spacey.

“The pageant instils confidence in the contestants and does not promote the women as objects,” said Tia’s proud dad John, who lives on Nun House Drive.

“It’s not about girls coming out in bikinis or sexy outfits like at other pageants. There is no swimsuit competition and they don’t measure breasts and waistlines.

“These girls are intelligent students that want a fun night out and to show you can have beauty AND brains.”
