WREXHAM, who currently have eight injured players ahead of tomorrow's match at Bury, have received Football League approval to bring in reinforcements - but time is against Dragons boss Denis Smith.

The Racecourse club, already rocked by the news that centre-back Shaun Pejic will be sidelined for at least two months with knee ligament damage, also face the prospect of being without wing-back Lee Roche for a similar period.

The summer signing from Burnley needs a hernia operation as soon as it can be arranged and the recovery period could be as long as six weeks.

But Smith acknowledged that the Football League was sympathetic.

"The Football League appreciate the situation we find ourselves in," he said.

"They will require medical evidence but they accept we are not trying to pull a fast one and instead are merely trying to put out a competitive team on Saturday."

But finding even one suitable replacement is, so far, proving a major headache for the Racecourse boss.

"I'm working my way through my list of contacts without much success at the moment," he said. "Everyone I speak to is very sypathetic and wants to help but one club say that won't be until November.

"Another has just sent the player out on loan to another club and I'm waiting for a few people to return my calls.

"I'm hoping to sort out at least one loan signing before the weekend and the priority is a right wing-back, a position that seems to be jinxed.

"I've got until 5pm tomorrow to see what I can do and there will be someone out there.

"But at the moment I'm not getting the answers I want. I've been offered young players, but they aren't necessarily what we need at the present time."
