CONVICTED Crewe killer Adam Swellings is to appeal against his sentence for the murder of Warrington father-of-three Garry Newlove.

The teenage thug, of Meredith Street, was sentenced in February to life along with two other youths for the brutal killing of 47-year-old Mr Newlove in a booze-fuelled attack outside the former sales manager’s home in Station Road North, Warrington, on August 10 last year.

But a spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the 19-year-old has now lodged an appeal against his sentence, and what his solicitor called a “robust” minimum 17-year term.

The CPS spokesman said: “We can confirm that we have received the papers and an appeal has been lodged against his conviction and sentence.”
