A FREE tea dance at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall was a toe-tapping success, with more than 100 people taking part.

Cllr Keith Board invited older people from across west Cheshire to take a twirl on the dance floor as part of the continuing celebrations for Older People’s Day, which was officially held last month.

Cllr Board, the council’s older person’s champion, organised the event as one of his first tasks in the role.

Ellesmere Port mayor Cllr Angela Claydon said: “What better way to celebrate this year’s theme for Older People’s Day ‘becoming and staying active in later life’.

“It was an extremely enjoyable event.”

Cllr Board added: “It was a pleasure organising this event.

“It was a wonderful afternoon and I was delighted to see so many people come along and enjoy themselves.

“I would really like to thank everyone involved in making this year’s tea dance such a great success.”

A raffle raised £87, which will go to the Older People’s Network fund.
