A MADE-TO-ORDER tandem bicycle can now be enjoyed by people with a range of learning and physical disabilities in Parkgate and Neston.

Paid for by Parkgate Cheshire West and Chester councillor Brenda Dowding, the bike is available to people using Neston Community Day Services, based at Neston Community and Youth Centre, Burton Road. The funding came from Cllr Dowding’s member’s budget.

She said: “The bicycle was custom-made so that as many of the people as possible attending Neston Community Day Services could benefit from its use.

“I hope that service users will now be able to enjoy cycling along the nearby Wirral Way.

“The aim is to give people greater independence, as well as the added bonus of trying out a different activity.

“One, or both, of those riding the bike can be peddling; or one person could simply be enjoying the ride. Tandem passengers might include older people or people with a range of disabilities.

“I do hope that this special bicycle will be well used and give a great deal of pleasure, as well as providing that additional benefit of helping people to become more independent.”
