A VARIETY show is taking place in Ellesmere Port’s Civic Hall in June to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Featuring a roll-call of local acts, the event will feature performances from Wirral Theatre School, South Wirral High School and West Cheshire College as well as a turn from one of the semi-finalists from Britain’s Got Talent last year.

The acts represent a century of entertainment from wartime favourites and George Formby classics to modern street dance and comedy.

Celebrating 25 years of Macmillan Cancer Support, the Civic Hall show has been organised by Moira Arnison and her sister Janet Roberts, whose husband John received valuable help from Macmillan before his death from asbestosis seven years ago.

Moira, from Birkenhead, said: “It’s payback really. We started raising money just to say thank you for the care John received.

“We normally raise about £20,000 a year with various events but we are hoping this will raise lots more.”

A raffle is being held on the night, with prizes including a one-night stay at Craxton Wood Hotel.

Wholesaler Costco has donated a birthday cake for 500 people to go with the coffee in the interval.

Tickets are £7, £5 concessions. Call Moira on 0151 336 4470.
