Arecent Energy Saving Trust survey reveals that almost half (46%) of North West householders are keen to find out about renewable energy technology such as solar panels, and how this can be used in their homes.

As a result, the Energy Saving Trust has launched a campaign, funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency, to demystify renewable energy technologies and the financial initiatives that are available to local residents.

Catherine Monaghan, head of Energy Saving Trust North West, said: “The survey shows that people are curious about renewable technology, what it is and how it can benefit them. We’d like to equip local residents with the right information and ensure householders are fully aware of what’s available in the region to help them get started.

“It seems local residents are keen to know more but may not know where to look. Our survey highlighted that nearly half (49%) of respondents wanted impartial advice about renewable energy from us, and 47% were interested in seeing a local demonstration on renewable energy, so the indications are that interest is definitely mounting”.

Commenting on the advice available, regional microgeneration co-ordinator for the Energy Saving Trust North West, Saray Cruz, said: “We work closely with local installers and organisations to make sure that people in the North West who are interested in installing renewable energy technologies into their home get the right advice and access to accredited installers.

“Our advisers are also fully trained to answer questions or queries whether it be generating your own electricity or considering installing your own heat pump. We are also running local events to enable everyone to talk to installers and advisers, and see the technologies for themselves.”

Anyone who is interested in finding out about generating their heat or electricity through renewable technologies can ring the Energy Saving Trust, for free advice on 0800 512012.

The Energy Saving Trust is holding a free, drop-in event on April 10 at St Mary’s Centre, Chester, from 10am to 1pm when you can find out more about renewable energy technology.
