A DISABLED woman was left housebound after a road sweeper collided with her car while it was parked out-side her home.

ME sufferer Lyndsey Halford, who lives her with fiancé, Shirzad Kassam, left her Motability Peugeot 307, with her wheelchair in the back, parked on Holyhead Road on Monday, November 21.

But she was unable to leave the house for a week after a road sweeper collided with her car sending it crashing into another vehicle before coming to rest on its side.

The sweeper was operated by J and G Plant, who are contracted by Kronospan to keep the surrounding roads clear of debris from the woodchip factory.

The driver of the sweeper called the police, who investigated.

A police spokeswoman said after a full investigation no action would be taken against the driver of the sweeper, which had been found to be road-worthy.

'It caused a lot of damage,' said Mr Kassam. 'It took us a week to find a suitable Motability vehicle so Lyndsey could go out. It has been a major inconvenience to us.

'The wheelchair was on loan to us from the health authority as we only moved here recently and are still getting ourselves sorted out.

'The collision also damaged our neighbour's Toyota Yaris. The only saving grace is the incident happened before 7am so there were no children around and very few people on the streets so no-one got hurt.

'If it had happened half-an-hour later the story may have been different.'

A spokesman for J and G said: 'Our insurers are dealing with the incident and the people involved will be reimbursed for the cost of the damage and any necessary compensation.

'We are just thankful no-one was hurt.'

Kronospan said they employed the company for the benefit of the community and added that the work they do has made them popular.
