TRAFFIC chaos could be unleashed on Ellesmere Port as four months of work begin on Sutton Way.

From July 18, United Utilities and National Grid will start digging to lay £2m worth of new water and gas pipes in one trench. Work is not due to finish until the end of November.

Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions is devising a work schedule with Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) to minimise disruption to drivers and the local community.

United Utilities will lay a 2km water main along Sutton Way from the Pooltown Road roundabout to the Chester Road roundabout.

At the same time, National Grid will replace metal gas mains with plastic pipes along the same route.

“These are vital improvements for Ellesmere Port and whilst a project of this size will mean some inconvenience we are working together to keep disruption to an absolute minimum,” said CWAC’s environment executive member, Cllr Neil Ritchie.

“That means a full public information exercise, seven days a week working and concentration on school routes during the school holidays.”

Representatives from organisations involved in the scheme will answer questions at a mobile visitors’ centre on July 9. The exhibition will be held at the ASDA car park on Wellington Road from 10am-3pm and Sutton Way Public House’s car park from 4-7pm.
