DRY Nets, who were obviously anything but, won the Winsford Weaver Mini-League on Sunday, writes JOHN STUBBS.

The Protack-backed side won team honours in the match itself and thus confirmed themselves as champions with Grange and Rudheath SC second and third on the day and overall.

But Meadow Bank AC rod Steve Walton stopped a Dry Nets clean sweep by winning the individual prize with a 9-14-0 net, defeating Timmy Wright (Dry Nets) 8-10-0 and Brent Pierpoint (Rudheath) 7-10-0.

Down river, Lymm continue to hold off Dave’s of Middlewich in the Northwich Mini-League, with Bob Meggs dominating in the penultimate fixture from town centre peg 10. He had 13-6-0.

The main interest now lies on who will finish third, with Dry Nets, Edgeley Sports and Cheadle level pegging.

Another championship decided was Barnton-Frodsham AC’s Amanda Lester Cup, which was won with a flourish by Mark Emmison.

He went into Sunday’s final match, on the River Dane in Northwich, as leader and was unbeatable.

Drawn behind the old fire station, Emmison trotted bronze maggot on a stick float to land a continuous stream of dace and chublets for 10-7-0 and a final points score of 137. Second place in the match was claimed by Alan Forster who tip-fished big maggot from a peg by the road bridge to land chublets and a barbel of around the 3lbs-mark for 4-4-0.
