CADBURY’S Chirk site has been honoured at the 2008 Business in the Community Awards.

The team picked up the Northern Foods Rural Action Award for Excellence 2008 in recognition of their contribution to the local community.

Staff at the Chirk site were given the opportunity to make a real difference using their own skills and resources as part of Cadbury’s nationwide CommUnity scheme.

The scheme – which focuses on homelessness, education and the environment – encourages staff to volunteer for the development and growth of the society around them.

In 2007, Chirk employees gave 128 days to support organisations such as Chirk Castle, Chirk library and Save the Family.

They also made 24 successful funding applications via the Cadbury “cash match” scheme which sees the firm match employees’ fundraising.

More than £30,000 was raised in total, benefiting 15 charities including Circle of Friends, Chirk Hospital and Froncysllte Community Centre.Š

Jim Davies, MRO procurement sourcing group manager for the business, said: “Our team is passionate about the company we work for.

“Cadbury truly lives its values through its people and recognises the importance of being a good neighbour and making a difference to the area it operates in.

“We don’t just do this through money though. We get to the heart of the issues of the community and deliver sustainable solutions to the wider and grittier problems in society.

“We are all really proud of the work we do, and we’re ecstatic to have won this award.”
