A FLOWER BED inspired by the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine provided one of the gold medal winnning highlights of this year’s RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.

The floral submersible attracted plenty of attention from both visitors and journalists on the first day of the show and earned Vale Royal Borough Council’s Streetscene team another coveted award.

Since the council started entering the show eight years ago it has won seven gold medals and one silver for its stunning flower beds - more than any other authority.

This year’s floral display is based on the borough’s close links with Liverpool and the 40th anniversary of the release of the Yellow Submarine film.

Cllr Lynn Riley, lead councillor for environmental management said: “Vale Royal Borough Council’s presence at RHS Tatton has been a key factor in building a pride in our environment.

“Over the years the show gardens and floral displays have demonstrated our commitment to caring for our borough and working hard to make it a great place to live.”
