YALE College GCSE and A-level law students took part in an interactive sentencing presentation by magistrates and probation officers.

The college took part in Inside Justice Week – an annual event aiming to give students an opportunity to look behind the scenes of the criminal justice system in England and Wales.

The week involved events and activities all over the country in police stations, courts and prisons.

Yale students were invited to contribute to a real-life situation of a mugging and were encouraged to analyse and debate an appropriate sentence using a confidential interactive voting system revealing interesting results.

Lucy Brown, law programme co-ordinator at the college, said: “The presentation really brought things to life as the students were communicating with officers actually working in the profession.

“We are extremely grateful to magistrate Pat Thomas and probation officers Lis Oats and Melanie Cran for their part in the activities.”
