WINSFORD Sixth Form students got a hard-hitting insight into the importance of road safety at a recent Drive Survive course.

Students described the session, run by PC Martin ‘Nobby’ Clark, as “a real eye-opener”, and organisers are hoping the message about the devastating consequences of traffic accidents will hit home.

Run in partnership with Mersey Regional Ambulance Service, Cheshire police and the Countess of Chester Hospital, the courses are aimed at 16- to 21-year-olds and covers all aspects of road safety, such as speeding, failure to wear seat belts and using mobile phones.

The scheme educates young drivers on the benefits of safe driving by showing them, sometimes graphically, the consequences of what happens when things go wrong.

Sixth-former Kimberley Newman said: “I know someone who was killed by a drunk driver and it brought it home to me how horrible it was.”

Another student, Kaseem Taylor, added: “It was a real eye-opener, amazing and shocking at the same time.”
