A YALE College engineering student has gained national recognition.

Robert Allen, 23, has received a highly commended award from the City and Guilds Engineering and Transport sector.

Robert is studying City & Guilds Certificate in Engineering, Level 3, and is considered to be a top student.

The award places him on the register of some of the best candidates in the UK according to the awarding body, who have been impressed with his work.

Steve Spence, lecturer in mechanical engineering at Yale College, said: “Robert deserves this recognition. It clearly demonstrates his competence, enthusiasm and attention to detail.”

Robert has been fortunate to benefit from teaching and the recently refurbished facilities at Yale College’s Bersham Road campus.

The rebuild and refurbishment was completed as part of a £5m capital project 50% funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and was officially opened by First Minister Rhodri Morgan in April 2008.
