ELLESMERE Port's Lee Latchford Evans was in Oman at the weekend with his pop group Steps to stage a morale-boosting show for British troops.

The band was joined by former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and comedian Bobby Davro for a Combined Services Entertainment Concert.

A crowd of 6,000 troops took time out to watch England's game with Greece before enjoying the musical spectacular in the evening.

There were concerns when Steps first took to the stage as a large part of the crowd pushed forward, crushing the front.

But Army medical teams were quickly on the scene to ensure the situation did not get out of hand.

Steps were followed by Geri Halliwell, who performed her full range of hits.

It all proved too much for many soldiers as scores were ferried off to a military hospital suffering from dehydration.
