A FORMER Hollyoaks actor, who left the scene of an accident after crashing his car, was banned from driving for six months.
David Brown, who played paralysed car crash victim Adam Morgan in the teen TV soap, previously admitted careless driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
Brown, 26, of Tatton Street, Knutsford, was disqualified and given a 60-hour community punishment order for failing to stop.
He was given no separate penalty for careless driving but was ordered to pay court costs of £150 by Manchester magistrates.
Brown was charged after he crashed into a garden wall in his silver BMW M3 in Heaton Road, Withington in March 2003 at about 7.30pm.
He left the scene, abandoning his car.
It was not until the next morning that he reported the accident to police.
Prosecutor Derek Wilcock said witnesses saw Brown retrieve something from the boot.
Brown had been drinking in the nearby Red Lion pub.
Mr Wilcock said extensive damage was caused to both the car and two properties where Brown hit the wall.
Gwyn Lewis, defending, said Brown had felt emotional after attending his grandmother's funeral on the day of the accident.
Mr Lewis said no-one was suggesting his client was unable to speak entirely normally at the scene of the accident.
Brown talked to people at the scene, but nobody had said it was their house or tookn any details from him.
People in the street recognised Brown as an actor from Hollyoaks.
Brown admitted leaving the scene but attended Wythenshawe police station early next day.
He said Brown was not currently working, adding: "He's living on what his family are providing him with. He's able to contribute what he can."
The hearing came seven months after Brown was found guilty of careless driving by magistrates in Northwich.
Then he was driving a Mercedes convertible up to 80mph on a 60mph road when he went out of control on a bend in High Legh, Cheshire.
The actor's car clipped a Vauxhall Corsa before spinning into a Mazda RX7 sports car driven by Alan Rowlands, 45.
Brown was not seriously hurt, but Mr Rowlands suffered injuries including two broken ankles.
