THE sports mad former deputy head at Sir John Deane’s Grammar School and College, Phil Campey, has died aged 73.
After being struck down by polio at 12, Phil was educated at King’s School, Chester, and Manchester University , and spent almost all his teaching career at Sir John Deane’s.
He served as chairman of the England Schools Cricket Association in 1993 and was a stalwart at Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club , where he was president, chairman, fixture secretary and life vice president, for more than 45 years.
Phil was also a hard worker on the Cheshire County club committee and founder chairman of the Cheshire Cricket Board.
His funeral service is at Ashton Hayes Parish Church, near Kelsall next Wednesday (2.45pm).
