PLANS for the 25th Northwich Festival are well advanced and this year’s Bank Holiday weekend extravaganza promises to be the best yet.

The four-day Moss Farm event involves non-stop entertainment from Friday, August 28 and culminates on Bank Holiday Monday, August 30, with what is now regarded as one of the UK’s premier strongman events.

The UK North Strongman Final will form the centrepiece of Monday’s activities and strongman organisers Mark Preece and Tim Pickering will bring together competitors from home and abroad.

Eight competitors have already qualified following eliminator events held in Caernarfon, Wythenshaw and at the recent Northwich Carnival. These will be joined by four international standard invitees including Igor Petirh ‘the terrible’ from Slovakia who will pit himself against Mark Felix who has competed in the ‘World’s Strongest Man’ event.

Northwich Soul Society will provide the curtain raiser and deliver an increasingly popular and nostalgic Northern Soul/ Motown event.

Saturday evening will be the main music night with the up and coming band Critchley Stance supporting the hugely popular Cheeky Monkeys.

Throughout Saturday, there will be a North West Colts rugby competition and a Ladies North West region rugby knockout. Sunday daytime will be taken up with the popular dancing troupe competition and the UK North Novice strongman contest.

To supplement the usual Bank Holiday Monday activities, which kick off with a huge car boot sale, this year’s festival committee have added a varied musical flavour.

There will also be a kids’ fun fair and hot air balloon rides available.
