CHILDREN from four Mid Cheshire special schools stepped into the spotlight in front of an audience of more than 400 at a musical extravaganza with Vale Royal’s ensemble-in-resident the Veya Saxophone Quartet.

The concert, part of Vale Royal’s Live Music Now initiative, marked the highlight of an exciting musical project involving Veya and pupils from Rosebank, Cloughwood, Hebden Green and Oaklands schools.

During the concert Veya performed a range of movie themes with tuneful support from the children.

Pupils from Oaklands and Rosebank also performed circus inspired songs and youngsters from Hebden wrote and performed a song about their school, accompanied by their homemade percussion instruments. Cloughwood pupils formed an American rap group and gave a special performance.
