PUPILS at South Cheshire secondary schools could find themselves without transport if the county council and local bus operators cannot reach a deal over the soaring price of fuel.

Operators have told the Chronicle the situation is at “crisis point” and have formed an alliance to try to lobby county transport bosses to increase the value of the contracts because, in some cases, fuel price inflation is adding up to £600 a month on their running costs.

One operator, who did not wish to be named, said: “Everyone will probably carry on until the school holidays but, if the rise goes on during the summer, a lot will be saying they can’t afford to do them for these prices.”

County transport spokesman Glenn Bubb said talks were on-going.
