Cwmbran Town 0 Bangor City 1

A SOLITARY goal by Mark Smyth on 62 minutes, swept home direct from a free-kick, was just what Bangor wanted to extend their winning ways at Henllys Way.

Successive City sides have done well there for six seasons, notching five wins and one draw – and this latest entry could have been more substantial.

Manager Steve Bleasdale, presiding over the team’s season-best sequence of three straight league wins, said: “We want to build on this and take our run to five wins in a row.

“We could have made it by 3-1 or 4-1, because the players battled and grafted, and they certainly have acquired a bit of belief in themselves nowadays.

“The first half was nothing special and was affected by the conditions, caused by heavy rain, and the pitch cut up so badly that the game could have been called off.

“We defended a lot better in the second half, held the line well and had the chances to score a handful of goals, which would have made the result look right.”

After Marc Lloyd Williams had fired against the bar around the half-hour, Marco Adaggio and Ashley Stott were also frustrated.

Adaggio produced two stinging shots which home keeper Gareth Wesson did well to fend away and Stott directed a drive off target.

Cwmbran, ruing their sixth straight defeat, might have upset the visitors if Martin Houston and Sam Small had made better use of the openings that went their way.
