STRIKES by South Cheshire council workers objecting to a pay deal have caused some “slight disruptions” to public services since they began this morning, council leaders claim.
The 48-hour walk out, organised by unions Unison and Unite, which began today and will last until midnight tomorrow, was called after public sector workers rejected a 2.6% pay rise.
A Congleton Borough Council spokeswoman confirmed today that refuse collections in Sandbach and Middlewich are continuing as normal, although “there will be some slight disruption to the garden waste collection. However all other recycling services are not affected.”
The council’s leisure centres also continue to be open as normal, although One Stop Shops in Alsager, Middlewich and Holmes Chapel will not re-open until Friday.
Council leader Cllr Roland Domleo added: “We are using our best efforts to minimise the effect to residents and customers, and I would like to reassure the public that all emergency services are being covered.”
