A WREXHAM man is celebrating after being named the top site manager in the North West on his 50th birthday.

Paul Kelly of Read Construction Holdings Ltd, Brymbo, beat 380 other hopefuls to the award, and was praised for his ‘exceptional commitment’ to the health and safety of workers on his sites.

The annual award includes a cheque for £200 and is given by the Building Services Group.

The Group administers up to 2,200 sites across the UK, where an average of 70 deaths per year occur on construction sites.

Michael Setter, chairman of the Group, said: “380 sites were reviewed by the judges, but Paul was considered to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety on his site.”

Read managing director Richard Heaton said: “We are delighted that Paul’s and Read’s success have been recognised.”
