A SINGING duo are touring the residential homes of Ellesmere Port to entertain the elderly.
Singing Sweethearts, a performing duo set up by real-life sweethearts April Lydon and David Herzog from London, appeared at Mayfields Care Home, Overpool yesterday afternoon.
April Lydon, who is keen to secure bookings at other care homes, said: “We will be touring nursing homes and residential settings in the North West and North Wales for a fortnight until August 20 with our musical revue I Cain’t Say No to Rodgers and Hammerstein!, featuring all the Rodgers and Hammerstein favourites including songs from The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, South Pacific and others.
“The idea for the production came to us as David was finishing his previous tour of nursing and residential homes, for which he worked as an actor. It was apparent that a lot of the residents were unable to get out to see professional theatre productions, both for mobility issues and financial problems.”
David and April have extended the show after a hugely successful run in North Wales in May and June.
April returns to her family home in Colwyn Bay for the summer to form the other half of The Singing Sweethearts.
David has recently completed a UK national tour of nursing and residential homes with musical touring show California, Here We Come!.
April added: “We are happy to be able to offer a highly discounted rate to the North Wales and North West community because, unlike national touring companies, we will be based in North Wales for the duration of this tour, keeping expenses low.”
