AMSTERDAM frontman singer Ian Prowse says it “means the world to him” that legendary DJ John Peel was so fond of his popular hit, Does this train stop on Merseyside?

Ian, who hails from Little Sutton, was speaking after performing the record at a ceremony yesterday in which a Merseytravel train was named after the music icon.

He recalled listening to John Peel as a boy on an old battered radio to catch the latest single by The Jam before delighting passengers with an impromptu repeat on board the train as it travelled to Lime Street station from Liverpool South Parkway.

Ian said: “Listening to that music changed my life and made me want to become a musician. To have him championing one of my songs years later means the world to me.”
