THE Shuttle Bus service introduced by Wrexham Maelor Hospital for patients and visitors using a temporary car park is to be kept running.
It will provide a service to the new car park, which is located on the old Wrexham to Brymbo railway line that runs along the back of the Maelor Hospital site.
The new area has opened in stages since last December, with the first part supporting the transfer of services into the new Rehabilitation Unit. The rest of the new car park will provide a replacement for the off-site car park at the former Brother factory unit on Wrexham Technology Park.
The lease on the car park expires tomorrow (Friday) and the area will not be available for hospital parking.
Originally it had been intended the Shuttle Bus service would end when the off-site car park disappeared. However, after reviewing the current service and noting how it has particularly assisted patients with limited mobility, hospital managers have decided the bus should be kept in service to link the car parks with the hospital entrances.
Spokesman Andy Scotson said: 'We know the bus service has been very popular with our patients. In fact it has been suggested that some people preferred to park off site and have the bus drop them right by the Hospital door than to have to walk across the regular car parks.
'Obviously we want to make sure the new spaces are accessible and practical for our patients and visitors to use and so we have decided to keep the bus running.'
