THE ANNUAL Volunteer Spectacular held as part of Volunteers Week has once again achieved a record-breaking attendance, with more than 55 organisations taking part.

The event took place on Llwyn Isaf Green in Wrexham town centre and was organised by the Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW) to give organisations the opportunity to raise their profile and much needed funds.

Groups were also able to meet the new Mayor of Wrexham, Mike Morris.

This year the Spectacular featured the first human table football game in Wrexham, with a number of teams taking part in a competition run with Wrexham Football in the Community.

The Arthritis Research Campaign entered the winning team, beating The Venture from Caia Park in the final.

Farndon Silver Band brought the bandstand to life on Llwyn Isaf and the event gave an opportunity for the younger band members to showcase their musical talents.

The Larchwood Morris Dancers, from Borras, gave a dancing demonstration with particular emphasis on the junior section, who gave two stunning performances.

AVOW's chief officer, John Gallanders, said: 'This type of public event shows the strength and variety of organisations in the voluntary sector in Wrexham.

'The showcase event is an opportunity for organisations to share ideas with each other and for members of the public to find out what services and organisations exist in their own community.

'AVOW would like to thank all who have taken part in this year's event and those who have assisted in making it such a success.

'We look forward to seeing everyone come back in 2006.'
