AN AUCTION of signed football shirts from all 92 professional football league clubs has failed to reach its reserve price at auction.
Wrexham Supporters Trust (WST) had hoped the shirts would be sold for around £20,000 as a one-off unique collection when they went up for auction at Sotheby's Olympia in London.
But the signed shirts, which were paraded at the LDV Vans final, failed to reach their reserve price of £10,000.
The nearest bid was £7,500, so the WST decided to hold the shirts and will look for another way to sell them.
It's thought a separate auction of football memorabilia at Christie's had attracted the attention of potential bidders instead.
'I'm distraught,' said Neil Williams, a Wrexham fan from Cornwall who arranged the shirt auction.
'But tomorrow is another day and we haven't given up. We are still looking at other ways to sell the collection and raise the money we want to.'
There has been interest in putting the shirts on display by Major League Soccer in the US, who are holding a soccer fair in Chicago this summer, and the shirts could be sold on internet auction site Ebay.

Australia shirt fetched Aus$15,000 (£6,200) at a recent auction. But to raise £20,000 in Australia they would need to attract a football fan willing to fork out Aus$48,422.
All the money raised from the shirts sale will be held by the WST in its fighting fund and used to help the club should its plight worsen.
It may also be used to help pay for any future legal action the administrators see fit to pursue.
