A PLEDGE to council tax payers that the arrival of unitary council government next year will mean the lowest rate rises for 10 years has come from top county council officers.

Finance chief Laura Rowley says the single authority will deliver savings of nearly £10m a year – bringing “maximum value for money for council tax payers by a considerable margin.”

The projected annual savings of £9.88m will be used to keep tax levels down below to 3.5% for the first three years and 4% in the fourth year.
