A SHELL worker is striding out for charity by walking home from work - for 40 miles.
Middlewich mayor Paul Edwards is approaching the end of his two years as the town’s leading citizen and is taking the opportunity for one final fundraising push for his chosen charity St Luke’s Hospice.
The walk from the oil refinery in Stanlow back to his home will take place on May 15. Ellesmere Port to Middlewich is 23 miles by road, but Cllr Edwards will take the 40-mile hike along the Shropshire Union canal through Chester to Barbridge and picking up the Trent and Mersey canal back to Middlewich.
He said: “If I walked along the direct route by road there are a number of main roads with no footpaths which are very dangerous, so I chose the scenic route. I don’t know how long it will take me but I will complete it. I am leaving work at about 4pm and would like to be listening to the dawn chorus approaching Middlewich.”
Cllr Edwards is raising funds for St Luke’s Hospice in Middlewich. Anyone who would like to support him can phone Dave Thompson on 01606 833434 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org,uk.
