WREXHAM Mayor and Mayoress David and Jackie Rogers joined the Shades for a Day campaign to raise funds for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

The couple joined thousands of people all over the country who made a donation to wear their sunglasses and find out more about caring for their eyes, particularly in the sun.

Cllr Rogers said: 'Shades for a Day is a fantastic way to both raise money for guide dogs and to highlight an important eye care message for us all.'

Tom Pey, director of policy for the charity, said: 'We are committed to eye health education and have invested more than £8m into research into the causes of eye conditions. Funding research into eye diseases is essential to understand the causes of blindness, and how to help prevent sight loss.

'There are simple measures that everyone can take to look after their eyes and, potentially, save their sight. Shades for a Day is an ideal opportunity to stop and think about eye care and have fun whilst raising money for our ongoing work.'
