DETAILED plans were put forward for 17 affordable homes on a vacant site near the town centre.

The application was made by Galliford Try Partnerships North at John Street, Ellesmere Port.

The site, surrounded by fencing, includes a dilapidated single- storey building formerly used by the sea cadets, hardstanding and overgrowth.

Outline approval for the new-build was granted in 2008.

The layout would be similar to that suggested at the outline stage, planners at Cheshire West and Chester Council explained.

All but one of the homes, for the Chester and District Housing Trust, would be two-storey semis.

No objections were raised to the application and there were no representations from Rossmore borough councillor Pat Merrick (Lab), who was notified.

The design of the properties would be acceptable, planners believed, and ‘fairly comprehensive’ landscaping would be carried out including the introduction of ‘a welcome number of new trees’.

The application was recommended for approval and the borough council agreed permission subject to conditions.
